WorkSafe Victoria states that all people performing construction work require a construction induction card (white card) as proof of having completed general occupational health and safety (OHS) construction induction training for the industry. If you are considering a career in the building and construction industry, this course covers the health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to yourself and others.
Frontier Institute of Technology is a WorkSafe Victoria approved provider. Construction Induction Training that is undertaken with an approved RTO will lead to a White Card issued to the student by WorkSafe Victoria.

Overview (What is the course about?):
This course covers the mandatory training required prior to undertaking construction work. This course covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
So, if you are looking at a career in a building and construction site as a self-employed individual, a labourer, trainee or apprentice, or any trade person you would require a white card to enter the construction site. This course prepares you to understand the mandatory Australian standards of operational health and safety requirements.
Course Suitability (Is this course for me?)
The CPCWHS1001 White Card course is nationally recognised and is suitable for all types of learners, who want to either start a career in the building and construction industry or an overseas experienced professional looking to work in a building and construction site in Australia.
You will have to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety and identifying construction hazards and understanding measures to minimise risks, personal protection safety signs, and workplace injury management. Upon completion of this course, learners will be issued with a Statement of Attainment. Frontier will apply for a White Card on behalf of the student.
Entry requirements
Applicants must:
- Be 18 years or over
- Hold a valid form of photo ID accepted by Work Safe Victoria
- Hold a valid visa to study in Australia (student visas are not accepted)
Language, Literacy & Numeracy
Applicants must undertake a language, literacy, and numeracy assessment during their induction session prior to beginning the qualification. Results will be assessed on an individual level by the assessor.
Depending upon the level of support required for the language, literacy, or numeracy an alternative training and assessment methods may be used or the learners will be recommended to pursue the Foundation Skills program, which will help them fulfill the LLN gap and achieve the qualification.
Course structure (What will i learn?)
The students enrolled in CPCCWHS1001 White Card are required to complete a structured core unit training conducted in 1 day, 6 hours a day, allocated for theory and completion of the tasks on the assessment booklet.

Course delivery (How will i learn and be assessed?)
The course will be delivered face-to-face in a classroom setup along with access to a simulated environment that covers all aspects of the construction’s section workplace performance. Learners will attend a 1-day class for 8 hours. The face-to-face class will include lectures, discussions, practice, formative assessments, and summative assessments.
Attendance is mandatory to obtain a certificate of completion.
Frontier applies only competency-based Assessment pathway for this course.
Learners will have the option to complete their assessments and provide a hard copy of their completed work.

Practical application
All course content relates to the building and construction industry. Trainers will guide the learners to ensure the transfer of information to an application is understood and easily applicable to the learner in their current workplace. We request students to get their own PPE as a measure to control any spread of infection.
Hands-on training
Where competencies require physical application of tasks, the training will ensure that the learner is not only shown how to do a task but given the opportunity to emulate the required skill in a ‘hands-on’ approach. This method of delivery may require resources usually readily available in a given workplace.
Research
Research tasks involve the learner accessing the organisation policies, procedures, and documentation, or consulting the appropriate person, department, or other sources (including internet, books, blogs, or other information sources) to gain the knowledge required for the competency or to complete the unit.
Group Discussions
Group discussions are essential in the learning process. With our trainer as a facilitator, these discussions will aid in the imparting and receiving of information from a variety of sources and differing opinions, knowledge, and experiences. Learners will be challenged and rewarded with a vast range of knowledge from broad and varied sources in other group members.
