While apprentices have their specific skills and tasks to perform in the building process, apprentices must have knowledge of all other trades, as an apprentice’s work often accommodates the other trades who follow them.

The course involves face-to-face theory classes and practical skills training in our simulated practical workshop area on campus, and for the work simulations carried out on campus in the workshop, you will require work wear, work boots, and clear safety glasses.

Frontier Training and Technology affirms that the training and assessment of all units of competency of this qualification will be delivered in a real or a very closely simulated workplace environment.

Entry requirements

Applicants must:

  • To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Frontier recommends learners have a minimum of Year 10 level English and Mathematics.
  • Year 11 is highly recommended. This course is not recommended if you find mathematics at this level challenging.
  • Prior to enrolment or commencement of training, you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment. These will assist with determining your suitability for the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Pre Training Review (PTR)

A pre-training interview will be conducted with the applicant by a Frontier representative. This interview will help us identify your prior experience, existing knowledge, skills and suitability for the course. The Pre Training Review will be valuable in determining additional support and/or reasonable adjustment required for you to successfully complete the course.

Language, Literacy & Numeracy

Applicants must undertake a language, literacy and numeracy assessment during their induction session prior to the beginning of the qualification.  Results will be assessed on an individual level by the assessor.

Course structure

The students enrolled in Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship required to complete following units of competency as listed below:

CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, policies, and procedures in the construction industry

VU23320 Identify and handle tools and equipment

CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

CPCCCM2006 Apply basic leveling procedures

HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support

VU23321 Perform basic setting out

VU23329 Construct basic formwork for concreting

CPCCOM1014 Construct basic sub-floor

VU23323 Conduct workplace communication

VU23326 Interpret and apply basic plans and drawings

VU23328 Carry out measurements and calculations

VU23327 Construct basic wall frames

VU23312 Install basic window and door frames

VU23325 Dismantle basic timber structures

VU23324 Install interior fixings

VU23312 Prepare for work in the building and construction industry

VU23325 Install basic external cladding

VU23324 Construct a basic roof frame

VU23314 Erect and safely use working platforms

Course delivery

Total course duration – 2-3 years

2 days per week, 9am-5 pm Monday – Friday for a duration of 2-3 years, excluding holidays and term breaks

$125 to $500

2. Trade Support Loans

As an Australian Apprentice, you may be eligible for financial assistance from the Australian Government to help with the costs of undertaking an apprenticeship.

3. Direct Debit

This option is for students who want a convenient payment process to save time.

Payments can be done weekly, fortnightly or monthly and in that way, some of the courses are less than 59$ a week.

Fee Refund Policy

Any fees paid prior to the commencement of a course are refundable upon withdrawal from the course minus the administration charge.  If a student withdraws from a course once training has commenced no refunds are given.
