- What is Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician program?
UEE30811 – Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician course provided at Frontier is an apprentice program for aspiring electricians. This course is designed for individuals aspiring to pursue a career or continue a career pathway within the field of electrotechnology as a certified electrician. The course provides competencies to select, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain electrical systems and equipment in buildings and premises. It includes ERAC requirements for an ‘Electrician’s license.
- What is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships provide hands-on training for your chosen trade. To become a registered apprentice, you must have an employer who is willing to take you as a full-time apprentice for 4 years.
The employer and the apprentice need to be registered under the Australian Apprenticeship Centre. The Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) is contracted by the Government to support and facilitate the apprenticeship process for employers and individuals to enroll in classroom training with a registered training organization (RTO) to commence.
- How long is an apprenticeship for an electrician?
A full-time apprentice typically will take 4 years to become a full-licensed journeyman electrician.
- What qualification does an electrician need?
To become an electrician, the learner requires to complete an apprenticeship with an established host employer under whom they are full time employed as required under the Electricity Safety(Licensing and Registration) Regulations 2010, while they are commencing their Training and Assessment with Frontier Institute of Technology. The applicant also must be 18 years, completed a minimum of Year 12 or equivalent and sufficiently proficient in spoken and written English.

A full-time electrician works around 45 hours per week compared to the average of 44 hours. You can also work part-time if that arrangement suits you.

- What is the mode of study?
The course will be delivered face-to-face in a classroom setup along with access to a practical workshop. The learner will be asked about their preferred learning style (auditory, visual or kinaesthetic) and this information will help to shape the style of delivery for the qualification. Apprentices will attend classes 1 day a week, 8 hours a day. The face-to-face classes will include lectures, discussions, practice, formative assessments and summative assessments. At the end of every unit of competency, apprentices will take a Unit Skill Test and a Unit Knowledge Test.
